'How do I know what type of BIOS chip I have? Where can I find it?
On most motherboards the bios chip is near the ISA/PCI slots or the CMOS
battery. Knowing what the bios chip looks like is the best way to find it.
There are 2 basic physical designs or "packages" being used today - the DIP,
which has 28 or 32 pins and is rectangular with pins on two sides and
the PLCC which also has 32 pins but is small and square with pins on all
four sides.
examples can be seen here.
